My review of the anti-fatigue and anti-ageing C5 Super Boost Eye Cream by the US skincare brand Paula’s Choice.
An eye contour cream with vitamin C that targets the signs of ageing and fatigue, while being suitable for even the most sensitive skin. That’s the tempting promise of the C5 Super Boost Eye Contour Cream by Paula’s Choice. I’ve been using it for several months now, and I’d like to tell you my thoughts!
I don’t know about you, but when we reach the middle of autumn, my fatigue shows up on my face even more than usual! My skin is duller, my dark circles are deeper and darker… In short, I need all the help I can get!
So you can imagine that any product that promises me radiance is immediately on my radar!
Now, as I remind you every time I talk about an eye contour product, we must stay reasonable in our expectations. And remember that the effects of an eye contour cosmetic product are always limited.
There’s no such thing as a miracle skincare product that erases dark circles. Especially when, like me, you’ve always had very deep dark circles (it’s the shape of my face, there’s not much I can do about it!).
But if a product can help me brighten up my skin by reducing the colour of my dark circles and smoothing out my eye area, I’m not going to pass on that!
I’ve had good experience so far with eye contour products containing vitamin C derivatives (I particularly loved Drunk Elephant’s C-Tango), so when I saw that Paula’s Choice, one of my favourite skincare brands, was coming out with one, I jumped at the opportunity, and I purchased it!
And now that it’s my second bottle (I bought it last spring, and the brand was kind enough to send another one to me!), it’s about time I introduced it to you.
Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost Eye Cream, product presentation:
I make no secret of the fact that I’m a big fan of vitamin C (I’ve dedicated lots of articles to it, including a super detailed Focus article recently). It’s a great anti-ageing and antioxidant ingredient, and it also helps to give the skin a radiant glow! For the eye area, which is often tired and dull, it’s just ideal!
But I admit that, especially for a sensitive area like the eye contour, pure vitamin C or ascorbic acid (which is the purest and most effective form) can be irritating. Using vitamin C derivatives (which are tolerated better) is therefore an excellent option for providing a product that is still effective, but which is suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive. And that’s the choice Paula’s Choice has made with its C5 Super Boost Eye Contour Cream.
As always with Paula’s Choice, the formula contains a whole range of ingredients that act on different aspects of the skin. In particular, it includes a complex of 3 vitamin C derivatives (Ascorbyl Glucoside, Ascorbyl Palmitate, 3-O Ethyl Ascorbic Acid), concentrated here at 5%.
It also contains:
– zerumbone, a concentrated form of ginger extract, which acts on the pigmentation of dark circles and helps to reduce puffiness with its decongestant effect,
– soothing and draining rosemary extract, which also helps to reduce puffiness,
– as well as anti-ageing peptides: Sh-Polypeptide-121, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8.
– hydrating glycerin and hyaluronic acid,
– nourishing shea butter,
– softening and antioxidant rice extract,
– and antioxidant vitamin E.
As you can see, it’s a fairly complete formula, which not only enhances radiance and fights signs of fatigue, but also has an anti-ageing effect, something I’m personally always very interested in! 😉
Texture-wise, it’s a bit thick at first, but it melts completely into the skin, and doesn’t leave a greasy effect, just comfort that lasts on me all day. Depending on the products I use it with, it can sometimes pills a bit. Fortunately, this doesn’t happen all the time, but I wanted to point it out anyway.
You can use it morning and night if you like, but I tend to use it in the morning.
Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost Eye Cream, my experience:
I’ve just started my second bottle, I used a whole one last spring, because for me, early spring is also a time when I seem perpetually exhausted! 😆
I use it in addition to my vitamin C face serum (at the moment I’m using the Paula’s Choice one, which is one of my favourites), as I don’t really apply this one to my eye area, given that it has a fairly acidic pH.
I find this eye cream very pleasant to use. It’s very hydrating on me, or at least it gives me comfort that lasts all day.
In terms of results, I find it works quite well for brightening up the skin, and it also has a smoothing effect that’s really welcome for my little fine lines under the eye!
Now, if I had to compare it with another vitamin C eye contour treatment that I love, Drunk Elephant C-Tango, I think I get more results with the Drunk Elephant, to be perfectly honest. But Drunk Elephant is so expensive, it’s not something I can repurchase all the time!
And really, for a more reasonable price (especially with a discount, that the brand does often 😉 ), I find that I still get very decent results with the Paula’s Choice. I can see myself keep on buying it, probably to use it alternately with the C-Tango. 😉
In conclusion:
The Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost Eye Contour Cream does the job well, and is pleasant to use.
I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute love and staple in my skincare routine like I’ve had with other products in this category, but I’m thinking of repurchasing it anyway. Probably as soon as I feel a little worn out, and need more radiance on this area that gets dark so easily! 🐼

Pros
- a practical, good-looking packaging that preserves the product's formula,
- a really good formula, with enough effective ingredients to make a difference, but still suitable for sensitive skin,
- the comfortable, non-greasy texture,
- the long-lasting hydrating effect,
- the double anti-ageing and brightening action on dark circles, which is what I'm looking for in an eye contour cream,
- the visible brightening effect I've noticed, particularly on the colour of my dark circles.
Cons
- the price, it's a bit expensive (now to be fair, a bottle lasts about 4 months as you don't use a lot of it, and there are often special deals with Paula's Choice).
- depending on the products I use it with, it sometimes pills. Fortunately, this doesn't happen all the time, but it is something I'd like to point out.

For Who
All skin types, even sensitive, and for those who want to tackle the signs of ageing.
Concerns
– very tinted and pigmented dark circles,
– saggy eye contour area,
– wrinkles, fine lines around the eye area,
– dryness, dehydration of the eye contour area.
Method
I use the C5 Super Boost Eye Cream more in the morning but you can use it morning and/or evening.
I take a tiny amount of product (the equivalent of a grain of rice or 1/2 pump) and I gently massage it onto my skin, from the inside to the outside of the eye contour, smoothing the skin very delicately (this area is fragile so be gentle) and finishing with dabbing pressures. I usually apply it at the end of my routine, after my serums, and before my face moisturizer.
