Review: Zelens Power D High Potency Provitamin D Treatment Drops

If you are a fan of the British skincare blogger Caroline Hirons, you’re probably well aware of this product! It’s one of Caroline’s favorites and she talks about it very often in her content.

The Power D High Potency Provitamin D Treatment Drops oil complex by Zelens is a cult favorite in the skincare community, more specifically the British one, where this technical brand, founded by a doctor specialized in anti-aging skin treatment and skin cancer, originates.

The brand can be intimidating at first . I must admit that I had to take a little bit of time to find my way around the range of products, which is not the easiest on the market to understand! I noticed that this is sometimes the case with the so-called doctor’s brands, which can be almost “too technical”.

But I also know that it’s a skincare brand that is very appreciated by the skincare addicts that I follow on social media, so, as you can imagine, it ended up tickling my curiosity!

At the beginning of January of this year, my dear husband went to London for work and I took the opportunity to send him on a mission to Selfridges to get me a bottle of Power D High Potency Provitamin D Treatment Drops (bless his heart!).

Let me introduce you to this product in detail, and I tell you all about my experience with it!

Before I tell you more about this product, let me tell you a story!

As I told you in the intro, I sent my dear husband to buy this product for me from Selfridges earlier this year. I started using it a few months later and while I was using it one day, the cap of the press-on pipette disintegrated in my hands and the bottle smashed on my tile floor. Clearly, the packaging of my bottle was defective 😭😭😭

I had used about 1/ 6 of my bottle (it had only been open for a few weeks), so you can imagine I was traumatised! Being in Dubai and having bought the product in London, I had zero hope that the brand would be willing to replace it for me. But I still took a chance and sent them an email explaining the situation. You never know!

Well, I’m the first surprised, but after checking my purchase, the brand’s customer service department apologized and sent me back a new bottle. In Dubai. You must admit it’s quite impressive!

Anyway, I thought this story was worth telling, because it’s clearly not common! 🙌

Apart from its highly efficient customer service, what else should you know about the Zelens brand?

The British skincare brand Zelens was founded by Dr. Marko Lens, a world-renowned expert in the field of skin aging and skin cancer.

With more than 20 years of research in the field of skin aging, Dr. Lens holds several patents in the field of innovative anti-aging skin care. He’s also still pursuing his research career and is regularly invited as a speaker at international conferences on skin aging, skin cancer and progress in the field of skincare. With all of this, he had some free time on his hands, so he also began to study Japanese Kampo medicine, based on the healing properties of plants!

His Zelens brand benefits from all his expertise, and I don’t know about you, but it really made me want to discover it!

On the other hand, once I arrived in front of the brand’s online shop, I didn’t get far. The least you can say is that the names of the products are not the most explicit…

Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that most of the products are more focused on anti-aging, which makes sense when you think about Dr. Zelens’ career path. It’s a good thing I just turned 42, so I’m right on target! 😉

That being said, the Zelens Power D High Potency Provitamin D Treatment Drops is not an anti-aging product in the classic sense of the word.

This concentrated treatment, based on plant extracts and other treating ingredients, is made to complement stronger anti-aging treatments rather than to really transform the skin itself. In short, it’s a soothing and fortifying complex for damaged skin.

No, no, don’t leave the page just yet, I guarantee you that this type of product has a primordial role in a complete and effective anti-aging treatment!

In fact, we know that the products that do most of the work in anti-aging all have a characteristic: they tend to be irritating. Retinol, acids, vitamin C… They all work very well but, especially if you combine them in the same routine, they tend to sensitize the skin!

So having a good support treatment will really help to optimize the results of your anti-aging treatment! A calmed and strengthened skin will obviously respond better to treatments 😉

Of course, I’m telling you this speaking from my point of view, which is from someone whose main goal in skincare is anti-aging, but if yours is more to treat your sensitive and/or acne-prone skin, the Power D is perfect for that too 😉

Just look at its formula!

Each ingredient is designed to repair the skin and make it more resilient. The formula isn’t very long, but it’s definitely well designed!

Here are some of the great ingredients you’ll find in there:
– Provitamin D (7-Dehydrocholesterol) which helps the skin to boost its production of vitamin D for a better resistance to external aggressions,
– a complex of plants (Reishi, corn, with lichen and plankton) rich in phytosterols and vitamin D precursors,
– nourishing ingredients such as phospholipids, omegas 3 and 6, a sterol complex, glycolipids, corn oil, sphingolipids, soy sterols that are similar to the lipids already present in the skin and help it to repair itself more effectively,
– chondroitin sulfate which helps the skin to regenerate faster,
– hyaluronic acid (low molecular weight) for hydration,
– some yeasts (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae) for their calming and repairing effect,
– Tripeptide-20, an anti-aging and regenerating peptide,
– antioxidant vitamin E,
– and Geranium essential oil, aromatic but also purifying, balancing and soothing.

Since I’ve been on tretinoin for about 6 months, I was particularly interested in the restorative effect. Add to that an anti-oxidant action which is always a plus for a good anti-aging prevention, and I was definitely motivated to try it!

Zelens Power D High Potency Provitamin D Treatment Drops, my experience:

As you can tell, the way I used this product, given my small accident at the beginning, has been unusual.

At the time, when I first used it in June, I had introduced Power D into my routine just as I was starting tretinoin. The idea was to help my skin to better tolerate the treatment. Of course, it’s going to be hard to be completely affirmative about my experience since I only used it for a few weeks before it committed suicide on the tile floor of my bathroom.

But then, I resumed using it last month, when I increased the concentration of my tretinoin (to give you an idea, I’m at 0.05% 3 times a week, and I intend to go up to 5 times). And this time, I can be more precise about its effectiveness: yes, it helps my skin. Hence me feeling more comfortable about writing this review.

I think that my skin is also starting to get used to this capricious molecule that is tretinoin, but I can see that it definitely appreciates the Power D when I apply it and that it helps to reduce irritation.

I also really appreciate its fine and silky texture, which I find ideal for use during the day (I also want to take advantage of its anti-oxidant effect when my skin needs it, so more in the morning). It absorbs very quickly, after a few seconds, and I can use my moisturizer on top of it without issue.

The brand advises to do the opposite for an even more protective effect, but I have my own habits. For me, the oil goes before the cream, that’s how I like to use it 😉

I’m not bothered by its aromatic geranium scent, quite the contrary. And I know that geranium essential oil has soothing and purifying effects, so I’ll take it, thank you very much!

Let’s talk about money money money now! I know that this product is not cheap. And clearly, you may wonder about investing in a product that only “supports” more effective anti-aging treatments.

But for me, anti-ageing is a global approach. I talked about it in my article on the best use of retinol. In my opinion, it’s important to consider the whole routine with this ingredient. I even think it’s the key to success! Retinol is used to effectively reduce the signs of aging, but it is important to compensate for its side effects to optimize its use.

So yes, retinol is a treatment that takes a bit of time and requires real investment: patience/ time, and a solid routine to accompany it effectively, and money as well.

But now that I’ve been using it for 6 months, I think I can say that it’s worth it. I won’t go any further on this subject, I will have the opportunity to do a post dedicated on my experience with tretinoin later 😉

As for the price of the Power D, I can imagine that it will depend on everyone’s budget. But I can say that it’s a bottle that lasts a long time (at least 6 months)! So even the 10ml version is worth it in my opinion 😉

In conclusion:

Its excellent reputation is not overrated. The oil treatment Zelens Power D High Potency Provitamin D Treatment Drops is indeed a very good product.

It’s pleasant to use and effective (and the brand’s customer service deserves a gold medal!). What’s not to love?
