I explain the concept behind My First Essener, a hybrid liquid skincare from the Korean organic (yes, organic!) skincare brand Sioris and tell you about my experience with it 😉

“Wait, what? There’s a review of a certified organic product on BTY ALY? Ah phew, it’s Korean, I thought you were unwell!” Admit it, if you recognized the My First Essener essence/toner from the skincare brand Sioris, that’s what you thought! Well yes, this week I am indeed reviewing an organic product, and even crazier, I have to admit I like it a lot 😜

I have to say that I quite like the brand Sioris. For me, it’s more of an ethical brand than a “Clean Beauty” one even though, of course, it claims to be “Clean” (because, even in Korea, “Clean” is selling).

Sioris makes their skincare products with natural ingredients of organic origin (as far as possible, not all the formula is organic) which originate mainly from South Korea.

Sioris emphasizes the importance of respecting seasonal harvests to guarantee optimal freshness and effectiveness of their ingredients. A unique feature of the brand, some ingredients will vary in the formulas from one season to another!

The Sioris brand also insists on the way it obtains its ingredients. Indeed, the extraction process of the natural ingredients used by the brand is ideally done by cold extraction to respect their integrity and ensure a better efficiency in the formulas.

Finally, Sioris favours eco-friendly and recyclable packaging to better respect the environment.

The range is quite short, and includes fairly simple products that can suit all skin types, even the most sensitive. I still find them very pleasant to use, with lovely textures and great aromatic scents (just be careful if you’re sensitive to essential oils, however, some formulas contain them, but it seems that the brand is gradually removing them from their products).

The packagings are very minimalist, quite “Instagram-friendly” (I like it very much!). I know it shouldn’t matter, but for me who has to actually photograph them, it counts 😉

And that’s clearly the case with this lovely bottle of My First Essener essence/toner! But let’s talk more about what’s inside and my experience with it…

Review: Sioris Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser Skincare Review: Sioris Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser For the past few months, cleansing milks have made a huge comeback in my bathroom, after being left aside in my facial cleansing ritual for at least 10 years! When I requested cleansing milk recommendations on my Instagram account, the Sioris Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser was one of the top suggestions. So I decided to give it a try and share my thoughts about it here… Read more

Sioris My First essener, product presentation:

I’ve tried several times Sioris best-seller, the Time is Running Out Mist but it’s just not a product for me. The all-in-one product doesn’t work for me, I never know how to use it. If we were still traveling by plane, that’s probably when I’d use it, but hey, it’s 2021…

But when the brand released another hybrid product a few months ago, I was much more interested!

My First Essener is indeed a liquid skincare product that can be used as a First Essence, a moisturizing toner and a treatment essence all in one. If you have trouble understanding the difference between the three, I invite you to click on the link to my dedicated article about essences 😉

Hey, it could be what helps you find the exact skincare product you were looking for.
We wouldn't want you missing out on that now, would we 🙂

For me, essences are products that I use extensively and more and more indiscriminately. I apply them more or less at the same time during my routine: after cleansing and before my serums. I love to layer essences (or use just one essence, but I apply several layers on my skin).

The point of this process? To bring maximum hydration into my skin and replenish it to give it that plumpy and radiant look.

So, the concept of My First Essener being a moisturizing toner, a “First Essence” and a treatment essence all in one, yeah, why not? But in fact, most of the essences that are released on the market are already like that, in my opinion. But hey, you have to pay marketing teams when they come up with a good product name, right? 😜

The texture of this essence/toner is a bit special though: it’s a sort of liquid gel, very fresh, which leaves the skin feeling plump, hydrated and refreshed. I really like it.

You don’t need to use much, and anyway, considering the size of the bottle (100ml), it’s better to avoid using it up too quickly! That being said, please be aware that the formula contains few preservatives, so it only lasts 6 months once opened. So don’t take too long to finish it 😉

What made me decide to buy it was its formula, and more particularly the fact that it contains a lot of green tea that I like to use in my skincare routine.

The said formula is pretty short, but it’s packed with great ingredients!
Take a look:

– some organic green tea extract, grown at an organic farm in Jeonnam Boseong. This place in the south of the Korean peninsula is famous for the quality of its green tea thanks to its ideal climate conditions for the cultivation of green tea. Green tea is an ingredient known for its powerful antioxidant effect, and therefore preventive anti-aging effect. It also helps to soothe and protect the skin, to reduce sebum production and smooth the skin texture.

– there’s also mugwort, which I talked about in my dedicated Focus article, an antioxidant ingredient also very soothing and anti-inflammatory,

– plus some moisturizing ingredients such as organic glycerin, hyaluronic acid, betaine, but also polyglutamic acid from fermented soybeans (a very interesting ingredient for an effective and long-lasting moisturizing effect!),

– and finally organic soothing, retexturizing and purifying Damask rose water.

The European organization Cosmos certified the organic ingredients.

In short, a true hydration, soothing but also antioxidant powerhouse!

Sioris My First essener, my experience:

As you might have guessed if you read my review, I ended up dropping my elmt Skin Activating Solution essence which didn’t really convince me. The Sioris essence/toner took its place, for the best!

I love its freshness and its super efficient hydrating effect and it’s also soothing, which I can feel as soon as I apply it.

In the morning, I love to apply 2 or 3 layers and then apply a sunscreen on top and call it a day! (well OK, I lied, it happened just once because I always get up very early with no trouble and I hate minimalist routines, but let’s just say that the one time I did it, it felt great and my skin seemed to like it too!).

I find this essence/toner My First Essener particularly appropriate to use in the morning because of its antioxidant effect, but you can totally use it in the morning and evening if you want, no worries!

It’s a bit expensive for the quantity (100ml), it’s true, but a little goes a long way; you get a nice plumping effect with very little product. I started my bottle in July, I think it will last me another 1 month and a half (so in total 3-4 months of use).

In conclusion:

Despite the “hybrid product” concept that I find a bit useless, the Sioris My First Essener is a very good product, in my opinion!

It does the job effectively and it’s also very nice to use! I will happily finish it and probably repurchase it 🙂

Big plus, it’s available in several European retailers, so no need to order it from too far away if you’re based in Europe 😉

The Sioris My First Essener retails from $25 to $35 for 100ml, depending on the distributors.

Method

I use the essence/toner My First Essener every morning, after I have cleansed and dried my skin and applied my vitamin C serum, before my other treatments and moisturizer.
I apply it to my face, including my eye contour and neck.
I pour the essence/toner directly into the palm of my hand. I sprinkle it about four times, in order to have enough product in my palm. You can also use a cotton pad to apply it, but I find you lose far too much product with that method.
I then apply it directly onto my skin, with a light pressure, using the palms of my hands until the essence is absorbed.
I finish by dabbing my skin lightly to ensure a complete penetration.
